The guesthouse, designed in the Sukiya Shoin style, is set in a Japanese Garden designed as a part of this project. Cardwell Architects worked with Japanese temple carpenter Makoto Imai in the design and construction. Makoto grew up in rural Japan and served a traditional apprenticeship with master carpenters. His career work includes teahouse design and construction throughout Japan, with his focus on historic temples in Kyoto.
